Star Wars: The Bad Batch to Premiere on Disney Plus in 2021
Star Wars Clone Wars’ seventh and final season came to Disney’s newest streaming platform, Disney+ and fans of the blockbuster science-fiction franchise were left in awe. But even before there could be a final season of The Clone Wars, murmurs of a new animated series were already audible around the community. And a new development in this storyline has intrigued even the most casual fans out there.
A new spinoff, featuring the premier new characters from the final season of Clone Wars, the Bad Batch!
The final season came out in February, and the most prominent new entrants to the animated world were the “elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch.” According to the official statement released by Disney, the clones comprising the Bad Batch are genetically unique in their family. They differ from the Clone Army members, and their brothers, as every member of the Bad Batch, carry a particular skill. This specific, singular skill, exclusive to each member, gives them extraordinary powers and makes the army a vicious group of soldiers.
The post-Clone War World
The show will cover the world after the Clone War, where the galaxy is rapidly changing and unpredictably dynamic. The formidable force of the Bad Batch will likely fight as mercenaries while they find their purpose in this new world. The Bad Batch is on a mission of resistance without an expiry date in sight. Remember, at the end of the final season, Rex permitted Echo to join the Batch? Yep, Echo will join the Bad Batch as they uncover the mysteries of the post-war galaxy.
Disney Plus collaborating with Lucasfilm Animation
In a statement by Agnes Chu, Vice President Disney Plus (Content), it was made clear that the ending of the Clone Wars was only the beginning of a new collaborative effort between the two companies, Disney and George Lucas’ Lucasfilm Animation. The statement further talked about their overjoyed attitudes as the series conclusion was very well received by the Star Wars fandom. And the company wished to bring more ideas to life from the brilliant writers and storytellers at Lucasfilm Animation, which begins with the spinoff series directed by Dave Filoni.
Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett are the executive producers for the series. Carrie Beck will be the co-executive producer, while Josh Rimes will be the producer. The new series is scheduled for a release on the streaming service sometime in 2021.
