Are You Aware of the Most Important Conditions and Benefits of Performing Hajj?

The Hajj obligation is among the most important obligations, the best of acts of worship, and the most valuable thing that a servant can do to come closer to his Creator. It is a great chance for a Muslim to atone for all of his sins by performing Hajj with prayers and also sincere supplications.

Performing Hajj with prayers

Allah Almighty said: The Hajj is (to be performed in) the months that are well-known. (Al-Baqarah: 197), meaning that Hajj has a particular month, but the Hajj religious practices do not take all of them. Dhu al-Hijjah is the 12th month of the Hijri year.

And Hajj worship continues for several days as the pilgrim needs to perform a variety of rituals on each of these praiseworthy days. The Hajj season starts on the 8th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah and finishes on the 13th day, with a total of 6 days of Hajj between them.

Divine worship

This divine worship has many benefits for Muslims, but it also has some conditions that are not mandatory without them, and we will go through all of the benefits of Hajj as well as the conditions for Hajj obligations.

Hajj is not compulsory for a person. Who has been appointed until certain conditions are met Which are referred to as “conditions of obligation.” If these conditions are met, Hajj becomes obligatory for him. These conditions are as follows:

Conditions of Performing Hajj

1- Islam

Allah Almighty has prescribed the obligation of Hajj to all Muslims, it is not obligatory for infidels and polytheists. A non-Muslim is not required to perform Hajj, and if he does, it will be invalid. Because Allah Almighty said:

And what prevented their donations from being accepted is that they have lost faith in Allah and His Messenger, they never come to prayer except half-heartedly, and they never donate except resentfully. (For repentance; 54).

Islam is a condition for the legitimacy and obligation of every type of worship.

2- The mind

The Hajj is only obligatory for sensible Muslims; it is not obligatory for insane or mentally retarded persons, because the Hajj obligation requires intent and intention, which the insane have little or no.

3- Puberty

It is not necessary for a person to perform Hajj until he reaches puberty as it is not costly, and if he undertakes the Hajj before reaching puberty, Allah Almighty accepts it.

Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with them) reported:

A woman lifted up her child and said: Messenger (ﷺ)_ of Allah, would the child be credited with having performed the Hajj? Thereupon he said: Yes, and there would be a reward for you.

(Sahih Muslim 1336b)

However, it does not count toward the Hajj of Islam, which was imposed on every adult as well as sane Muslim, and he must undertake Hajj again after reaching the age of puberty.

4- Freedom

A person who is possessed and also is busy serving his owner during the Hajj. And is unable to act on his command is not obligatory to perform Hajj. But there is an option that he must perform the Hajj of Islam after his freedom.

lbn ‘Abbas (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah () said:

“Any minor (child) who performs Hajj must perform it again after coming of age; any slave who performs Hajj and is then freed, must perform his Hajj again.”

(Bulugh al-Maram; 717)

5- Money and physical ability

Only those who are able to perform Hajj with their bodies and money. If the individual responsible is unable to do so, either physically or financially, Hajj is not mandatory for him. On the other hand, whoever is able with money but without the body may appoint anyone who performs Hajj on his behalf.

6- The woman prohibited for a man:

If a woman is with her husband or even a mahram for her. Then she can perform Hajj, and she should never be in the iddah due to death or divorce. And this condition is only applicable to women, not men.

Benefits of Performing Hajj

1- Hajj is a fundamental pillar of Islam that is only performed with it, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling this obligation for Almighty Allah in order to achieve His pleasure and forgiveness.

Narrated Ibn ‘Umar:

that the Messenger of Allah () said: “Islam is based upon five: the testimony of La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the establishment of the Salat, giving the Zakat, fasting (the month of) Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House.”2- Hajj is a type of jihad for the sake of God, as the Holy Prophet said in his noble hadith: “The struggle of the old, the young, the weak, and the woman is the Hajj and Umrah.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi; 2609)

The Hajj is a pilgrimage

2- The Hajj is a pilgrimage to worship the Allah Almighty of the Worlds and the rituals of Islam, including the Talbiyah, circumambulating the Divine House of Allah, seeking As-Safa & Marwah, standing at Arafah, staying overnight in Muzdalifah, and stoning the Devils, all of which indicate the glorification as well as the sanctification of Allah Almighty.

Noble verses

3– As Allah (SWT) stated in His noble verses, Hajj is a way of collecting benefits for people, such as exchanging commercial interests and other fortunate actions, so that they experience benefits for them.

4– Standing on Arafah’s day brought victory. Allah, Exalted be He, bestows greater mercy upon His followers on the Day of ‘Arafah, engulfing them in His Pardon. And Forgiveness while humiliating and belittling the devils. In Hadith,

The Prophet said: “Apart from the day of the Battle of Badr there is no day on which the Shaytaan is seen to be more humiliated, more rejected, more depressed and more infuriated, than on the day of Arafat, and indeed all this is only because of beholding the abundance of descending Mercy (on the day) and Allah’s forgiveness of the great sins of the servants.

(Mishkat).

5-  Hajj entails the removal of poverty as well as the forgiveness of sins. Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) narrated that: The Messenger of Allah said: “Alternate between Hajj and Umrah; for those two remove poverty and sins just as the bellows remove filth from iron, gold, and silver – and there is no reward for Al-Hajj Al-Mabrur except for Paradise.” (Jami` at-Tirmidhi; 810)

6- Forgiveness of sins for the pilgrims who came to this house while remaining faithful to Allah (SWT), obeying Allah’s commands, and avoiding his prohibitions.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah () said, “Whoever performs Hajj (pilgrimage) and does not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commits sin, nor disputes unjustly (during Hajj), then he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins as on the day on which his mother gave birth to him.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. (Riyad as-Salihin; 1274)

7- Hajj is a great opportunity for Muslims to come together in one uniform and at the same time, place, business, and organization. Where everyone only turns to Allah Almighty with praise, cheer, and Takbeer as well. And hoping for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness.
